CWAHI Finding Aid

The CWAHI database Finding Aid was created for the purpose of facilitating research on Canadian Women Artists born before 1925. Due to the large scale and early stage of this project's development, much of our information is incomplete or in progress. Despite these limitations, we have created a searchable list documenting all of the information that we have compiled to date.

This list indicates whether or not an artist's bio/bibliographic data is published on our online database (http://cwahi.concordia.ca/sources/), whether or not they have a physical file in our documentation centre at Concordia, their birth and death dates, media that they worked with, where they lived and worked throughout their life, information about their family and heritage, and additional avenues for research. Consequently, a researcher is able to use this document to search for a keyword and find all artists' entries that contain that keyword. For example, if a researcher is interested in finding information on women artists from Senneville, QC, they may search the term “Senneville” in the document to find all women artists associated with Senneville from our database.

N.B. All information is subject to change as our research progresses. Some things to note: some artists are listed both under their married names and unmarried names; we would recommend searching both names with variations in their spellings. Finally if you come across conflicting or incorrect information in our database please let us know (cwahi.group@gmail.com).
