Notice biographique
Although born in Scotland, Katherine Arthur Behenna (also Catherine) was the daughter of a Montrealer, and was educated in Montreal, Boston, New York, Edinburgh and France. She married Henry Carstairs Behenna in 1885, though they later divorced. Her miniature paintings won much acclaim and gave her the opportunity to take the likenesses of many significant personalities of the time, such as HRH Princess Louise, Princess of Wales. Her work was shown at the Royal Academy in London and in many French and American exhibitions. Various books and articles of hers were also published under the pseudonym "John Prendergast." In 1912, she was living in Etaples, France. Her works can be found in the collection of the New York Historical Society, New York.
