- Margaret Chappelle worked in various media after studying with H.G. Glyde and J.B. Taylor at the University of Alberta in 1947 and elsewhere with Florence Mortimer and Sibyl Laubenthal. Chappelle was actively involved in the Alberta Society of Artists, often writing articles for the ASA newsletter "Highlights." She was also a member of the Edmonton Art Club, the Federation of Canadian Artists, and served on the board of the Edmonton Art Gallery. Her print works were exhibited in the annual Canadian Painter-Etchers and Engravers shows in the 1960s, and ceramics works were included in a number of craft shows, including Albertacraft, Ceramics Canada 61and 63. Notably, she was one of twelve artists to show her ceramics at the Smithsonian in 1961. In the late 1960s Chappelle became a civic activist and joined the urban reform movement initiated in the 1970s. She left a provision that the artworks in her estate only be sold ten years after her death with the stipulation that monies be donated to the SPCA.
