Mary Qayuaryuk was an Inuit artist who lived a traditional lifestyle until she and her husband Kopapik ‘A’ settled in Cape Dorset in 1966. Working with the Cape Dorset Print Cooperative, between 1966 and 1982, Qayuaryuk produced eleven prints based on her drawings. Qayuaryuk also played a significant role in her community as the first woman to be elected to the Cape Dorset Community Council; she was also a midwife and healer. Her works can be found in many private and public collections across Canada, including the Canadian Museum of History, the McMichael Canadian Art Gallery, and the National Gallery of Canada.
