Notice biographique
Kathleen Cardiff was a Christmas card designer and graphic artist before becoming a printmaker. In the early 1950s she studied silkscreening and serigraphy with George Weber at the Edmonton Art Gallery and also pursued studies at the University of Alberta Extension Program. She exhibited her prints in Edmonton galleries before moving to Toronto in 1959. Cardiff's work focused on Canadian landscapes and later evolved to abstract representations of trees. She exhibited at annual shows of the Society of Canadian Painter Etchers and Engravers (CPE) and was actively involved with the association, serving as the last president from 1974-1976 before it merged with the Canadian Society of Graphic Arts (CSGA) to become the Print and Drawing Council of Canada. She was also a member of the Alberta Society of Artists (ASA) at various times between 1950-1984. Her prints have been exhibited in Hamilton and Toronto as well as the Winnipeg Biennial (1963). Her work can be found in the collections of the Alberta Foundation for the Arts and Art Gallery of Hamilton.
