- Recognized for her watercolours, Reta Madeline Cowley (née Summers) studied painting at the University of Saskatchewan, at Emma Lake with A.F. Kenderdine, and also at the Banff School of Fine Arts with W.J. Phillips. In addition to these two artists, her work was influenced by Nikola Bjelajac and Eli Bornstein. She taught at Emma Lake in 1948-49, and again in 1953. She was known especially for her landscape watercolours. She is represented at the Winnipeg Art Gallery.
