Hilda V. Foster studied art at the Nottingham Municipal School of Art with her father H. Wilson Foster before emigrating to Edmonton In 1927. She became involved in the local art community, serving as the president of the Edmonton Art Club from 1930-1934. Her work was included in the Alberta Artists collection for 1933, and in 1935 Foster participated in the Women Sketch Hunters of Alberta exhibition which included the works of a group of women who were excluded from the the Alberta Society of Artist's male-only membership. Foster also submitted works to the exhibitions of the Royal Canadian Academy of Arts (1936-45). She moved to Vancouver Island, B.C. in 1940 where she joined local arts groups, including the Victoria Sketch Club. From 1945-1948 her works were included in B.C. Artists exhibitions at the Vancouver Art Gallery. A collection of her watercolours is held at the Royal B.C. Museum.
