- Notice biographique
- An active participant in the Montreal art scene, Suzanne Duquet studied at the Ecole des Beaux-Arts de Montreal (EBAM) from 1932-42, and subsequently taught at this institution for thirty-nine years (1943-82). She was also an instructor with the Commission scolaire catholique de Ville Mont-Royal from 1945-52, and gave Saturday courses for children at the EBAM. Unable to travel or to hire professional models, Duquet improvised: she regularly visited the collection of European art on display at the W. Scott and Sons Gallery in Montreal, and asked her women friends to sit for her Fauve-inspired portraits. In addition to painting, Duquet organized conferences, wrote scripts for radio, illustrated books, and collaborated in the making of children's television shows for Radio-Canada. The Montreal Museum of Fine Arts featured a retrospective of her work in 1977.
