- Notice biographique
- While she painted many subjects, Lillian Hingston was best known for her flower studies and landscapes. Originally from Goderich, a small town in Ontario, the artist came to Montreal as a child, and lived in the prestigious Golden Square Mile neighbourhood. While she was still a young girl, she studied drawing under William Brymner at the Art Association of Montreal, and did not begin painting in oils until 1921. Hingston was a regular exhibitor with the Art Association of Montreal (1931-49) and occasionally included her works in Royal Canadian Academy shows. Her most important solo exhibition took place at the West End Gallery in Montreal in the spring of 1950; thirty-two of her paintings were on display.
