Reva Brooks began photographing in 1947 during a trip with her artist husband to San Miguel de Allende where they were instrumental in establishing an internationally recognized art colony. In1952, Edward Steichen bought one of the most famous photographs of her career - an image of a dead child and grieving mother - for the the Museum of Modern Art. A few years later, in 1955, she was paid the honour of being included in the New York Museum of Modern Art's Family of Man show - the first blockbuster photography exhibition. In 1975, Brooks was selected by the San Francisco Museum of Art as one of the top fifty women photographers in history. From February to May 2000 her work was exhibited at the Canadian Museum of Contemporary Photography. Brooks had her last solo show at the Art Gallery of Ontario in 2002. Her works is held at Queen's University in Kingston.
