- Aked immigrated to Canada with her parents in 1910. A painter of still-lifes, portraits and landscapes in a post-impressionist style, from 1921-28 she studied at the Ontario College of Art in Toronto with, amongst others, Arthur Lismer, Frederick Varley, George Reid, A.Y. Jackson, Fred Haines and J.W. Beatty. Between 1929 and 1944, she spent winters in Sarasota, Florida where she exhibited regularly, studied at the Ringling School of Art, and became a member of the Southern States Art League and the Sarasota Art Association. She participated in many artist workshops and artist organizations in both Canada and the United States. In addition to exhibiting regularly at the Canadian National Exhibition, the Royal Canadian Academy and the Ontario Society of Artists, she had solo exhibitions at the New York City Public Library and the Sarasota Art Association. Her last important exhibition took place at the Robert McLaughlin Gallery in 1989.
