- Alison Houston Lockerbie Newton studied art at an early age before moving to Manitoba with her parents in 1910. Initially working as an illustrator for the T. Eaton Company, she returned to her studies after marrying Stanley Newton in 1916. She studied at the Winnipeg School of Art with Alex Musgrove and L.L. Fitzgerald, and took private lessons with W.J. Phillips. She worked in watercolor and color woodblock printing, focusing on landscapes, including the Rocky Mountains and streetscapes. She belonged to the Winnipeg Sketch Club, Manitoba Society of Artists, and the Federation of Canadian Artists. Newton exhibited with the Royal Canadian Academy in 1941, and the Art Association of Montreal from 1930 to 1948.
