CLARK, Mary

Naissance
Toronto, Ontario, 1936
Notice biographique
Mary Clark (later Mary Patterson Clark) was awarded her Bachelor of Architecture from the University of Toronto in 1959. In the first years following her studies, she worked for Weir and Cripps in North Bay, Ontario, co-authored a report to the Ontario government on Swedish civil defense shelter construction, and worked for Irving Grossman in Toronto. From 1962 to 1972, Clark worked independently on additions and renovations and then for James Weller as a research coordinator, which began her work in urban planning. Throughout the 1970s, she was involved in urban transportation development and in 1984 she completed her Master of Science in planning from the University of Toronto. Clark participated as an exhibition committee member and an archival researcher in the 1980s and 1990s for the project “For the Record: The First Women in Canadian Architecture.” Significantly, she produced two research reports in 1988 on women graduates in architecture from Canadian universities and registered women architects in Canada. From 1986, Clark practiced in Nunavut, working with Comarc Architects on commercial and residential projects, but also separately on research projects. She retired in 2000. (Thanks to Alexis Lenk for the research on Mary Clark.)
