- Margaret Beatty (née Frame) was born at Oxford, Nova Scotia. At eleven years old she studied under Inglis Sheldon Williams when her family moved to Regina, Saskatchewan. From 1922 to 1924 she studied at the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston. She also studied one term at the California School of Fine Arts at San Francisco (1923). Later she travelled to Paris and studied at the Ecole des Beaux-Arts for four years. Margaret Frame’s portraits were exhibited in several exhibitions at the Jeu de Paume Museum in Paris, at the Galerie de Marsan, at the Royal Canadian Academy and in the British Empire Exhibition, London, England. In 1926 she held her first solo exhibition at the Galerie de Marsen in Paris. Her portraits include those of: Countess Guy de Kernguern (Rumanian Princess); Marquis a Roche Aigmon;; Rt. Hon. W. S. Fielding (Premier of Nova Scotia), among many others. Her portraits “Portrait of Monsieur R. de V.” and “Portrait of the Artist” were included at the Salon of Women Painters and Sculptors of France in 1932. She wrote a book of poetry entitled "Phantom Caravan."
