- One of the earliest women architects in Canada to specialize in institutional buildings, Walford was an expert designer of medical buildings and university building laboratories. Her projects included the chemistry building at Queen’s University, Kingston (as consultant for Barott, Marshall and Merrett); McIntyre Medical Sciences Centre, McGill University (as project architect at Marshall & Merrett); library and space planning for the addition to the Allan Memorial Institute, Montreal; and hospital design, master planning and strategic planning for the Montreal Children’s Hospital. Earlier, Walford had worked in the office of Le Corbusier, followed by the Department of Foreign Buildings Operations in Paris. Other Montreal projects included work with Moshe Safdie on Habitat, and the Bell Telephone Pavilion at Expo 67 (as project architect at David, Barott, Boulva). A member of the Royal Architectural Institute of Canada (RAIC), Walford was the first woman officer of the College of Fellows in 1987, serving as registrar for three years. (I. Puchalski)
