Eva Matsuzaki received her B.Architecture from Cornell University, one of two women in a group of forty in her 1966 graduating class. Her professional experience with leading design firms included: office of Eero Saarinen and Associates/Kevin Roche, John Dinkeloo and Associates in Connecticut (1966-72); later in Vancouver she was employed at McCarter Nairne (1972-74) and subsequently Arthur Erickson Architects (1974-1984). She was the founding principal of Matsuzaki Wright Architects (1984-98) and later founded Matsuzaki Architects (1998). In early projects she was design architect for the Courthouse Complex at Robson Square and was associate in charge of transforming the old Vancouver Court House into the Vancouver Art Gallery. Considered a leader in green architectural design Matsuzaki's award winning buildings include: Les Terraces Condo Tower in Vancouver (1990), recipient of the Award of Excellence from both Canadian Architect Magazine and the Architectural Institute of B.C.; C.K. Choi Institute, University of B.C.(1993-96), a benchmark in sustainable design and winner of several international design awards including International Resource Awards 'Best Building', Architectural Institute of B.C. Innovation Excellence Award, Earth Day Top Ten Award, American Institute of Architects; Fraser Valley Credit Union Headquarters, awarded the B.C. Hydro Power Smart Award of Excellence. Matsuzaki served as Chair on the City of Vancouver Urban Design Panel (1985-86) and as Canadian Certification Board President (1996-97). Founding member of Women in Architecture Vancouver (1990) she was also the first woman elected as President of RAIC (1998-99). Additional acknowledgements include Architectural Institute of B.C. Lieutenant-Governor's Medal in Architecture (1992) and Vancouver YWCA Woman of Distinction (2000). (I. Puchalski)
