Notice biographique
Landscape and portrait artist Alice M. Daley (Daly) studied at the Hamilton Conservatory of Art School where she also taught before moving to Edmonton to establish a studio where she gave painting classes. As an active member of the local art community, she was president of the Edmonton Art Club in 1929, and later joined the Alberta Society of Artists in 1939. In 1937 she exhibited with the Women's Sketch Hunters of Alberta at The Women's Lyceum Art Association in Toronto. After her death, a number of former pupils and admirers formed the short-lived Daley Art Club to continue the artist’s legacy. Their most notable activity was an exhibition of more than 100 works displayed in the Empire Room of the Hudson’s Bay in 1942. Her paintings were included in the 2017/18 exhibition Undaunted: Canadian Women Painters of the 19th Century held at the Art Gallery of Alberta. Daley's works are held at Art Gallery of Alberta and the Alberta Foundation for the Arts.
