This database is a research tool which provides a searchable digitized collection of exhibition reviews for major Canadian exhibiting societies published principally in newspapers as well as in some magazines. Presently, the database includes coverage of the Art Association of Montreal Spring Exhibitions, the Ontario Society of Artists Annual Exhibitions and the Royal Canadian Academy of Arts Annual Exhibition for the years 1873 to 1940. The database covers women and men artists. In addition to the full-text pdf image of the exhibition review articles, each entry includes a brief bibliographic record.
Use the main search box to look for artist names, exhibition titles, societies (e.g., Art Association of Montreal, OSA, RCA), or keywords in titles and notes.
Partial text works (e.g., typing Montreal will match records containing it).
Filters
Click Filter (funnel icon) to add conditions like Publication, Year, Society, or City.
Combine multiple filters with AND/OR to refine results (e.g., Year between 1875–1900 AND Publication is Montreal Gazette).
Viewing PDFs
Open a record/card to find the link or attachment to the PDF image of the review article.
If a PDF doesn’t appear, try opening in a new tab or refreshing—embedding can cache states.
Resetting
Clear search and remove filters to return to all results. Some interfaces include a “Reset” control—use it if present.
