Notice biographique
In addition to her significant contribution to art education in Alberta, Stadelbauer was recognized for her independence and openness to modernist art. She initially taught in rural and urban schools after graduation from the Calgary Normal School in 1933. She subsequently turned to art studies in 1936, taking courses at the Provincial Institute of Technology and Art (Calgary), the Banff School of Fine Arts, and the Alberta College of Art, where she obtained an Advanced Diploma in Fine Arts in 1945. She attended Columbia University between 1947-1949, receiving a Masters degrees in Art. On her return to Calgary, Stadelbauer taught at the University of Alberta (Calgary campus) in 1949. She is credited with playing an important role in the expansion of the Art Department at the University of Calgary, which became an independent university in 1961. Stadelbauer was dedicated to art education, remaining at the university for thirty-one years; during this time she continued to produce hundreds of prints, sketches, and modernist Canadian landscapes.
