RANEY, Suzanne Bryant

Naissance
London, England, 1918
Notice biographique
Suzanne Bryant Raney was born in London, England in 1918 but the following year moved to Canada. At 18 she became a student at the Ontario College of Art. Her media are varied and included printmaking, sculpture, serigraph, lithograph, watercolour, oils and so on; her favorite subjects are just as varied. In 1960 she held a show at the Macdonald Institute and a local paper described the works thusly: "From fairly factual reports of a familiar locale these eventually are abstracted until lightened and reduced to the most economical pictorial terms, they are fully meaningful and individual expressions of the artist's experience." In 1965 the Society of Canadian Painter-Etchers and Engravers chose one of her works for the Honourary Members print. Raney has taught at the Nova Scotia College of Art (now the Nova Scotia College of Art and Design). She resides lately in Dunnville, Ontario.
