Notice biographique
Anita Elkin (Abramson) explored various media throughout her life. She originally studied painting in Paris at the Academie Julien and Academie La Grande Chaumiere and in Montreal at the Ecole des Beaux-Arts de Montreal. She also studied in Toronto as well as at other schools in the United States. In addition to painting, she worked in ceramics and jewellery making as well as photography and printmaking (lithography and wood block). She became a member of the Montreal Camera Club in 1983. Prior to her artistic work, she ran the Montreal Galerie Waldorf (1953-55) and Studios Clayart (1955-62) with her husband. One of her works was included in the 1947 exhibition of Canadian Women Artists at the Riverside Gallery in New York, and she also exhibited in Toronto, France and Spain. In Montreal, she was an active member of the print studios Arprim and GRAFF where her lithographic prints were exhibited; her prints and artists' books are also held at the Bibliotheque et Archives nationale du Quebec. In the 1970s she taught at Dawson College (Montreal).
