- Margaret (Pegeen) Synge Dryer was born in Toronto in 1921, educated in Dublin, Ireland from 1925-1930, and in Toronto from 1930-1945. She graduated from the University of Toronto in 1945 with a B.Arch, Honours, winning the Royal Architectural Institute of Canada (RAIC) Gold Medal. For her design ability Dryer was also awarded the Ontario Association of Architects Scholarship in her second year, and the Toronto Brick Prize in her fourth year. Dryer gained professional experience at Mathers and Haldenby, Architects, from 1945-1947, and with Fleury and Arthur, Architects, from 1950-1951. At that time these were among the very few firms in Toronto known to hire women architects. During the 1940s she prepared and delivered weekly broadcasts for CBC (Canadian Broadcasting Corporation), totaling over fifty segments on residential renovation, house design and community planning. Dryer pursued independent architectural design from 1952 to 1963. Margaret Synge Dryer died at the age of forty-two. (. Puchalski)
