- Biography synopsis
- Flewelling was recognized for her printmaking and abstract painting. She studied at the Banff School of Fine Arts for credits towards her B.Ed. (1936-39) as well as a summer course at Columbia University and another year at Instituto Allende (San Miguel de Allende, Mexico). She was a member of the Alberta Society of Artists and the Federation of Canadian Artists. Like many other print artists, her work was represented in "Highlights," an early newsletter of the Alberta Society of Artists. Her work is held in the Alberta Foundation of the Arts and in various private collections. H.G. Glyde, André Biéler and Gordon Smith had a strong influence on her work which included oils, water colours, tempera, casein, enamel and mixed techniques. She exhibited with the ASA as a member. Her other affiliations include: Soc. of Ed. Through Art; FCA (former Nat. Treas.). Flewelling also taught art by correspondence for sixteen years and was a design instructor for four years at summer sessions of the U. of A.
