Biography synopsis
Grace Morris Craig (nee Grace MacFarlane Morris), an architectural draughtsperson and painter, was educated at Branksome Hall in Toronto, where she was taught by Marion Mattice, sister of Hortense Gordon. After graduation she attempted to enroll in the School of Architecture at the University of Toronto, but was refused entrance due to her gender. She married James Henry Craig, co-founder of the architectural firm Craig and Madill, in 1923. Craig worked as a draughtsperson at the firm through the 1920s, eventually leaving to raise her children. She would later enroll at the Ontario College of Art, where she excelled at painting. She was a member of the Heliconian Club for over fifty years, and exhibited with the Ontario Society of Artists in 1957.
