Notice biographique
After training with Goodridge Roberts at the Montreal Museum of Fine Arts (1944), Denyse Gadbois (later Mme Denyse Chaput) left for Paris, where she enrolled at the Académie Julian for a short period. In 1945, she returned to Canada and, that same year, was awarded a prize for figure painting at the Quebec Provincial Competition. Numerous exhibits followed, including the "Exhibition of Canadian Women Painters" at the Riverside Museum in New York (1947), a show with her mother, Marie, at McGill University's Royal Victoria College (sponsored by the Women's Union of McGill - 1944), and a solo show at Eaton's Fine Arts Galleries in Toronto. She also completed a series of large murals for a fashion show mounted by the Dominion Textile Company, and taught art to both adults and children.
