Notice biographique
In 1919 Raney's family settled in Canada. At 18 she became a student at the Ontario College of Art, studying various media, including printmaking, sculpture, serigraph, lithograph, watercolour, and oils. In 1960 she held a show at the Macdonald Institute described the works thusly: "From fairly factual reports of a familiar locale these eventually are abstracted until lightened and reduced to the most economical pictorial terms, they are fully meaningful and individual expressions of the artist's experience." In 1965 the Society of Canadian Painter-Etchers and Engravers chose one of her works for the Honourary Members print. Raney has taught at the Nova Scotia College of Art (now the Nova Scotia College of Art and Design). Her work is held at the Art Gallery of Hamilton and London Museum (Ontario).
