Notice biographique
Vaughan Grayson is recognised for her paintings and prints of prairie as well as mountain landscapes. She grew up on a farm, and after completing high school traveled around Europe, studying art in Budapest and England. On her return to North America, Grayson continued her studies in Boston, St. Margaret's College in Toronto and Teachers College at Columbia University in New York City. She later returned to Moose Jaw where she became an art instructor at the Teachers' Colleges in Regina and Moose Jaw. She published two art appreciation textbooks for elementary and high school students. She and her husband Arthur Mann moved to British Columbia in 1929; Grayson continued teaching at the University of British Columbia, the Summer School of Fine Arts in Penticton, as well as the Banff School of Fine Arts. She also exhibited in local annual exhibitions. Her work has been exhibited in Canada and the United States, including in a group exhibition of the National Serigraph Society in New York City in 1957. In 1961 she returned to Saskatchewan; she continued to travel and study in Victoria, B.C. and San Miguel de Allende, Mexico. Her work is held in the collections of the Kelowna Art Gallery, the Art Gallery of Hamilton and the Moose Jaw Museum and Art Gallery.
