- Notice biographique
- As a young art student at the Ontario College of Art from 1925 to 1928, Gwen Hutton completed an honors degree in painting. On her return to Alberta in the early 1930s she joined other artists, including a number of women, to challenge their exclusion for their modernist tendencies from the Alberta Society of Artists. In 1932 her work was included in the Alberta Artists collection and exhibited in Vancouver; a number of her works were acquired for the gallery. From 1934 to 1937 she participated in the Art Association of Montreal's Annual Spring Exhibitions. She also studied theater arts at the Banff School of Art and later taught there. After marriage and raising a family in northern B.C., she moved to Kelowna in 1948 where she designed backdrops for the local theater and art groups. In 1976 she was instrumental in establishing the Kelowna Art Gallery.
