- Maime Migwans was born in Wikwemikong on Manitoulin Island in Ontario. In 1944, Migwans moved to M'Chigeeng (also known as West Bay), Ontario. She is best known for her Native American baskets which were woven using traditional techniques. Her baskets, quilts and moccasins were inspired by nineteenth-century Anishnabe and Odawa First Nations art. Some of her works are held by the British Museum.
