- Notice biographique
- Paunichea (also known as Paunichiak/Pannechiak/Pannichiak/Pannichea/Munamee) was an Inuit sculptor and graphic artist who lived in Cape Dorset, Nunavut. Paunichea was the daughter of well-known artist Kiakshuk (1886-1966) and was married to fellow artist Davidee Munamee. Like many Inuit of her community, Paunichea participated in several of the Cape Dorset Graphics exhibitions, and her prints were collected in the catalogues between 1960 and 1969. Many of her drawings depict birds, fish, and other animals rendered in a whimsical manner. Her graphic work has toured across Canada, the United States, and parts of Europe and can be found in several museum collections including the Art Gallery of Hamilton, the Glenbow Museum, the Winnipeg Art Gallery, and the Royal Ontario Museum, among many others. Her son, Axangayu Shaa (b. 1937) is a practicing artist.
