- Inuit artist Yvonne Kanayuk (Arnakyuinak/Arnakuinak/Kunneryuk/Kanayuq) is believed to have been born in the Baker Lake area in Nunavut. Recognized for her large basalt sculptures, Kanayuk often depicted the theme of mother and child. She participated in several exhibitions throughout Canada, including the "Zazelenchuk Collection of Eskimo Art" at the Winnipeg Art Gallery in 1978. Her work is in the collections of the Canadian Museum of History, the Prince of Wales Northern Heritage Centre, the Klamer Family Collection, and the Department of Indian Affairs and Northern Development in Ottawa.
