- In 1854 Alvira Lockwood's family moved to Ottawa where her father, Joseph Lockwood, opened a photography studio. When her father died in 1859, Lockwood took on the responsibility for his studio and ran it until 1891. During her career Lockwood photographed many well-known citizens of Ottawa. She also painted china and did portraits in oil. In addition, to her own work, Lockwood taught art. Her work can be found in the archives of Library and Archives Canada and the Bytown Historical Museum.
