- Although Ella Hartt grew up and worked intermittently in Illinois, she spent a number of years in Thelma, Alberta before moving there permanently around 1930. A self-taught photographer, her images, both snapshots and more artistic works, documented ranch life in Montana and Alberta, as well as her visit to Yellowstone National Park in 1898. A large collection of her work is owned by the Glenbow Museum in Calgary, Alberta, and in 1982 there was a solo show of her photographs at the Southern Alberta Art Gallery in Lethbridge, Alberta.
