An award-winning student, in 1960 Sarina Altman Katz received the Pilkington Travelling Scholarship (second prize) for her thesis design of a music centre for Montreal, and graduated with a B.Arch. from McGill University. From 1967 to 1978 she worked in the office of Moshe Safdie as Senior Project Architect on several Habitat projects (New York, Puerto Rico and Israel) and other commissions. Her career also included work with several other well-known offices which included Hart Massey Architect, Ian Martin Architect, and Bobrow Fieldman Architects. Her expertise included the design of civic squares, shopping centres and residential projects. Having gained a wealth of experience, in her private practice Katz was also responsible for the design as well as the financial, administrative, construction, marketing and programming aspects necessary for the realization of her projects.
