Notice biographique
Eva Vecsei (nee Hollo) was educated in the School of Architecture at the University of Budapest, Hungary, graduating in 1952. She became involved in architectural design in Hungary, working on residences and teaching at the University of Budapest prior to immigrating to Canada in 1957. Upon arriving in Montreal, Vecsei joined the firm of Affleck, Desbarats, Dimakopoulos, Lebensold, Sise, where her husband, architect Andre Vecsei was also employed. She was a major contributor to the Place Bonaventure project in the late 1960s, and during the 1970s founded her own architectural firm. Her first major commission was the Cite Concordia project (now known as La Cite) that provoked a considerable amount of controversy over its scale and impact upon the urban landscape in downtown Montreal. She was selected to represent Canada in the International Federation of Women Architects exhibition held at the Centre Pompidou, Paris (1978). Vecsei and her husband would found Vecsei Archtectes in 1984. She later served as the president of the Ordre des Architectes du Quebec.
