Notice biographique
In addition to painting, Vivian Lindoe also worked in ceramics, printmaking, and textiles. She studied at the Technical Institute in Calgary as well as the Instituto d’Allende in San Miguel, Mexico. As a member of the short-lived "Calgary Group" her painting was loosely structured around modernism. Her work was included in the Calgary Group exhibitions at the Vancouver Art Gallery in 1948 and the Art Gallery of Windsor. With her husband Luke Lindoe, himself a recognized ceramics artist, she played a major part in the production of many of the early works created by the Lindoe Pottery Studios in Medicine Hat between 1954 and 1957. She also served as president and exhibition coordinator of the Medicine Hat Community Art Clubs Association in 1959. Her work was shown in traveling exhibitions representing the work of Alberta artists in Calgary, Winnipeg, Ottawa, Mexico and the USA, and was included in the collection at Alberta House, London, England. A number of her prints are held by the Alberta Foundation for the Arts.
