- Dora Mackie studied science before turning to art; she completed a B.Sc. at Queens University (1947) as well as an M.Sc. at the University of Toronto (1949) studying under Dr. Frederick Banting. She subsequently moved to Calgary where she raised her family before returning to studies at the University of Calgary where she received her B.F.A. (1973). She was a member of the Royal Canadian Academy and the Alberta Society of Artists. She is well known for her woodblock prints and etchings, although she also worked with charcoal and watercolor. Her subjects included landscapes, prairie culture, animals, plants and wild flowers. Her works have been exhibited nationally and internationally and are held in collections around the world. She donated a copy of all her prints to the Nickle Galleries (University of Calgary).
