Notice biographique
Amateur artist Alicia Jeffery studied art with W.H. Jones who organised some of the first exhibitions in Halifax in 1830 and 1831; one of her works was included in 1831. She later studied at William Eagar’s Drawing Academy. Jeffery’s landscape paintings of the Parrsboro region in Nova Scotia were noted for the architectural detail they provided and were lithographed and published in 1837. One of her drawings of a Mi’kmaq guide was included as a wood cut in books by geologist Abraham Gesner. Her amateur drawings were considered important for the details they provided of daily life. In 1837 she married George Augustus Eliott and the couple moved to England.
