- Mary-Anne Pinhey was the daughter of landowner and politician Hamnett Kirkes Pinhey who emigrated from England to Canada in 1820 where he developed a farming estate named Horaceville on the Ottawa River. Little is known about Mary-Anne Pinhey; however, it is possible she was taught by Robert A. Sproule. She has been recognized for the sketch of Horaceville she produced as a young girl which her father sent to England to be lithographed sometime between 1837-1840. This work is valuable for the detailed information it provides for history. Two copies of the lithograph are owned by Library and Archives Canada; one of these is in the Coverdale Collection of Canadiana. In 1844 Mary-Anne Pinhey was married to Dr. Hamnett Hill who was a member of the Ottawa Art Association. Her nephew was well-known portrait painter John Charles Pinhey (1860-1912).
