Notice biographique
Arlette Carreau-Kingwell studied sculpture and graphic arts at the École des Beaux Arts (Montréal) as well as in Denmark. She demonstrated exceptional talent in her wall hangings made of wool and fur. In 1971, she was the recipient of the French prize for crafts at the Royal Canadian Academy exhibition. From 1960 to 1977, she taught adults in a recreation centre in Montreal. She was named a craft master in her medium, and subsequently taught courses at the Université du Québec à Trois-Rivières during the 1980s. After devoting many years to textile arts, particularly tapestry, she chose to return to painting. Most of her paintings are not known as there is little documentation. In her craft work, Arlette Carreau-Kingwell participated in numerous exhibitions at the Museum of Fine Arts Montreal, the Guild of Crafts, and also during Expo in 1967. Her work has also been included in exhibitions across Canada, as well as in France, Africa, and Belgium.
