Notice biographique
Blanche Bolduc, sister of Yvonne Bolduc, started painting at the age of fifty-eight in her home town of Baie-Saint-Paul, Quebec. Her subjects and characters were taken from the typical activities of the Baie, such as the townspeople, farmers, soap-makers, fiddlers, the farmer’s market, local houses and weddings. Her colourful style and details in her work became well known. Her work was purchased by Quebec art galleries, doctors, lawyers and tourists in the region.Bolduc exhibited her work in various galleries in Quebec and Ontario and had two exhibitions in France, one in 1972 and a second in 1976. She was awarded a silver medal from the Academy of Arts, Sciences and Letters in Paris in 1976. The work of Bolduc can be found in the Musée national des beaux-arts du Québec, the McCord Museum of Montreal, the Charlevoix Museum, McGill University, the National Gallery of Canada and many personal collections.
