- Ethel Byers was primarily a plein-air painter, depicting landscapes and other outdoor scenes. Although she worked as a social studies teacher at Lambton-Kingsway high school in Toronto, she also taught a studio art class and was assistant instructor at the summer art school run by Western University at Trois-Pistols. She sold many of her works locally and one, entitled "Moonlight," is held in the collection of Toronto Humberside Collegiate. In 1951 she held a solo exhibition at the Hawkesbury Town Hall.
