- Biography synopsis
- Along with her sister Helen, Isabel Stadelbauer is remembered for her contributions to the development of art education in Alberta. Her interest in art stemmed from her love of the Rocky Mountains, which she would draw and paint during family holidays. After high school, she attended Teachers' College and began teaching art at the high school level, while furthering her own education at various artistic and scholastic institutions. The sisters spent many summers painting landscapes around Calgary and Banff, and also used watercolour to document hundreds of local scenes during the Second World War. Although perhaps best known for her Canadian subject matter, Stadelbauer also travelled extensively with her sister, recording sights and experiences in sketches, paintings and photographs.
