Biography synopsis
Claire Kerwin was born in Chatelet, Belgium and emigrated to Canada in 1947. She was married to George Mace Kerwin, with whom she had two children: Michael, a musician, and Shawn, a stage designer. She worked in a number of different media, often combining images of urban and rural life. Kerwin was a member of the Royal Canadian Academy and she received from the City of Toronto the Medal of Service. Her work was exhibited not only in Canada but internationally in Belgium, Brazil, England, France and the United States. Kerwin actively participated as a volunteer artist with the Royal Ontario Museum, for which she drew artifacts for the Discovery Gallery.
