Biography synopsis
Jean Eyden studied at the Liverpool School of Art before moving to Canada in 1921. Despite her partial blindness and hearing difficulties caused by childhood illnesses, she pursued her love of art. In 1924 she joined the Winnipeg Sketch Club, and from that year until 1928 she was enrolled at the Winnipeg School of Art, studying with Alexander Musgrove; in 1929 she returned to the school to study under W.J. Phillips. She became a member of the Manitoba Society of Artists in 1943. Over the years she produced and exhibited watercolour landscapes of local scenes from Manitoba and Quebec as well as seascape and boatscapes. During most summers between 1951 to 1964 she spent time in Rockport, Massachusetts where she studied seascape painting with John Chetcuti. Her work was included in exhibitions in Montreal as well as the Winnipeg Art Gallery which holds some of her works. Her work is also included in the University of Winnipeg Art Collection.
