Biography synopsis
Fanny Amelia Bayfield (nee Wright) moved from England to Canada as a young woman. In 1838 she married Admiral Henry Wolsey Bayfield; they lived in Quebec until 1841. She then moved to Charlottetown where she lived until her death. In England, she studied painting under the same teacher as Queen Victoria. In Charlottetown she taught drawing and music. An album of her watercolours, entitled Canadian Wild Flowers, is held in the Library and Archives Canada. Other works are held at the Glenbow Foundation in Calgary and the Confederation Centre Art Gallery and Museum in Charlottetown.
