- Biography synopsis
- From a young age, Ritchie showed an interest in art, and in 1936, she travelled to Paris where she studied with M. Muguet. Returning to Canada in 1937, Ritchie enrolled at the Montreal Museum of Fine Arts where she studied under Edwin Holgate, Will Ogilvie, Lilias Newton, and Goodridge Roberts, receiving her diploma in 1941. She continued her studies at the Montreal Museum of Fine Arts, taking night classes with Jacques de Tonnancour in 1947 and sculpture classes with Gisela Lamprecht in 1949-50. While Ritchie focused on painting, stone cuts and ink drawings, later in her career she experimented with collage and mixed media. Eventually settling in British Columbia, Ritchie continued her practice holding solo exhibitions at the Penticton Art Club (1964), the Kelowna Regional Library (1965), the Topham Brown Gallery in Kelowna (1967), and also participating in many group exhibitions across Canada. Her work can be found in many private and public collections across Canada.
