- Having completed a Bachelor of Arts in History from McGill University, in Montreal, Quebec, in 1939, Catherine Chard Wisnicki went on to become the first women to graduate with a Bachelor of Architecture from McGill in 1943. After graduation, she worked for Montreal based A.J.C. Paine, Lawson & Betts, and participated in the planning of Arivda, Quebec. Subsequently, Chard Wisnicki was employed by the Canadian Wooden Aircraft Company in Toronto, Ontario, working on prefabricated housing. In 1946, Chard Wisnicki registered with the Architectural Institute of British Columbia and stayed in Vancouver for the rest of her career. She worked for the firm Sharp, Thompson, Berwick & Pratt, and later formed a partnership with John Porter. From 1963 to 1986 she taught at the School of Architecture at the University of British Columbia, in Vancouver, British Columbia. (Thanks to Alexis Lenk for the research on Catherine Chard Wisnicki.)
