Biography synopsis
Reid attended the Ontario College of Art where she studied with Arthur Lismer, J.E.H. MacDonald, and J. W. Beatty. After graduating from OCA, she continued her studies at the Parsons School of Fine and Applied Arts in New York. In 1942 Reid traveled to San Miguel de Allende, Mexico, where she worked with Leonard and Reva Brooks. She was recognized for figurative works, as well as still life and landscape paintings in both oil and watercolour. Reid was an active member of the Hayden Street or Studio Group of Painters, formed by Barker Fairly in 1938 in Toronto. She was also the first member of the Studio Group to hold a one-person show at the Hart House in Toronto in 1943. During her career Reid exhibited with the Ontario Society of Artists (1933), the Royal Canadian Academy (1936), and the Picture Loan Society (1938). Her work is held in the Art Gallery of Ontario.
