Biography synopsis
Inuit artist Angotigolu Teevee (Angotigoluk/Angitteegooloo/Angotirulu/Angotiggoolook/Angutigulu/ Angotiglu/Angutigulu/Antigalook/Angootiguluk/Tivi) resided in Cape Dorset, Nunavut. Married to fellow artist Jamasie Teevee (1910-1985), she was well known for her drawing and printmaking. She contributed to the Cape Dorset annual collections between 1961 and 1966. Teevee's work encompasses many different themes, but many of her most poignant prints depict aspects of the spirit world, inspired by Inuit myths and culture. Teevee's prints are all based on her drawings, of which she produced over 380 in her lifetime. Teevee's work has been in several exhibitions throughout Canada and the United States, and is featured in the collections of the Department of Indian and Northern Affairs, Ottawa, as well as the National Museum of Man and the Art Gallery of Hamilton. Teevee's brother, Tikituk Qinnuayuak (1908-1992), was also a renowned graphic artist.
